Back in 1913 football shorts were referred to as knickers, and socks as stockings. ‘Football Stockings’ could be bought for a shilling, and ‘Football Knickers’ a shilling and fourpence. The F.A. Challenge Cup was won by Aston Villa, who beat Sunderland 1-0 in the final played at Crystal Palace in front of a record crowd of 120,081, although Sunderland lost the cup they did win the League Championship. The F.A. Amateur Cup was won by South Bank who beat Oxford City 1-0 in a replay played at Bishop Auckland. The "Arthur Dunn" Cup was won by Old Brightonians who beat Old Aldenhamians 2-1 on the Rugby Union's Ground at Twickenham.
