Photograph of the Gentlemen team taken at Lords in 1899 The Gentlemen, captained by the legendary WG Grace,  beat the Players by an innings and 54 runs on July 20th 1899 at Lords.  This match was generally played on an annual basis between teams consisting of amateurs, (the Gentlemen) and professionals (the Players), and the first match was in 1806.  This historic photograph of the Gentlemen team at Lords in 1899 is one of many that can be found on the Book of Cricket 189 CD-ROM  (source: The Book of Cricket 1899 CD-ROM, please note that the image shown is of lower resolution and quality than the image on the CD-ROM)
