In the despatch of September 8th 1914, from the Viceroy of India to Lord Crewe, the Secretary of State for India, it was stated that amongst the many Indian Chiefs and Princes who had volunteered for active service, the Maharajah of Bikaner was accepted. The Maharajah of Bikaner was granted the hon. commission of Major in the British Army in 1900, and attached to the 2nd Bengal Lancers.
