1848, WG Grace, known formally as Dr William Gilbert Grace, was born

WG Grace, known formally as Dr William Gilbert Grace, MRCS, LRCP was born on July 18th, 1848 at Downend, Bristol. Known worldwide by his initials "WG", the English amateur cricketer has been widely acceptedeas the greatest criket player of all time. During the forty four seasons he played betwen 1865 and 1908, he captained England, the Gentlemen, and Gloucestershire, along with several other teams.
