1759, The Battle and Capture of Quebec

The 35th Regiment of Foot was raised in Belfast in June, 1701, by the 3rd Earl of Donegall. The officers carried half-pikes, the sergeants halberds, and the men muskets, with plug bayonets and short swords. The Regiment's first tour of active service was as Marines, despatched to Spain in 1702 to attack the French and Spanish ships at Cadiz. In 1759 the Regiment, reinforced by drafts from England, fought with great distinction at the Battle and Capture of Quebec. In that historic battle, led by their gallant Colonel, Henry Fletcher, met and totally defeated the famous French Regiment, "The Royal Roussillion" The painting is a view of the Taking of Quebec, September 13th, 1759 and can be found on A Short History of the Royal Sussex Regiment (35th Foot-107th Foot) 1701-1926 CD-ROM, please note that the image shown is of lower resolution and quality than the image on the CD-ROM.
