This fascinating collection of images is from the weekly publications entitled 'Famous Cricketers and Cricket Grounds', edited by C.W. Alcock and published 1895. Eighteen issues are included containing over 250 individual photographs of famous cricketers, along with a brief history of each of their careers. Players are listed alphabetically from R. Abel who played for Surrey and England, a great favorite with the public who knew him familiarly as ‘The Guv’nor’, to E.G. Wynard who played for Hampshire, was one of the best batsmen in the Army, and also won an International Cap for England at Association Football. Photographs of teams such as ‘Gentlemen’, ‘The Australians’ and ‘Hampshire’ are also included along with photographs of grounds such as Lords and Brighton.(307 images)
